Canoeing

You don’t need to travel to Northern Wisconsin for your scouts to experience the fun of paddling! Cub Scouts can learn the basics of paddling on “flat water” at one of the many Cook County and Lake County lakes.  Boy Scouts can practice their skills on river treks on the Des Plaines River, Fox River close to council campgrounds.  Or, many other river treks are within close driving distance.

NEIC will provide the canoes, PFDs, and paddles to equip your outing and get your unit on the water.  Combine your paddling adventure with fishing to make for a full day of excitement.

Camp Oakarro is right next to beautiful Sterling Lake at Van Patton Woods, perfect for canoe instruction on flat water.  Or, hop up north or head down south on the Des Plaines River for a perfect day-trip.

Camp Crown is located next to the Fox River and is a perfect jumping-off point for a half-day or full-day canoe trek.  Include paddling as part of your next visit to Crown.

Canoe Rental contact NEIC to rent our canoe trailer, which includes: 4 Canoes, 8 paddles, & 8 PFDs (Personal Flotation Device). There are endless opportunities to paddle your way through the beautiful waterways in and around the Northeast Illinois Council.
