BeAScout: Putting Scouting on the Map The BSA is putting Scouting on the map all across the nation! As part of Join Scouting 2010, the Boy Scouts of America will have its own joining webpage with information on Scouting. The Google map application will help potential Scouts and their parents find Packs, Troops, and Crews in their communities.
Unit leaders will be able to update their unit’s Google “pin” – the bubble you see on Google maps through your MyScouting account. You can add unit meeting times, location, phone number, website address, and contact name(s) for the unit. It’s easy – the unit leader, committee chairperson, or chartered organization representative can log onto your MyScouting account and plot your unit on the map. Click here and then select the BeAScout webinar PowerPoint presentation under the “Quick Link” heading for detailed information.
Updated Youth Protection Guidelines
The Boy Scouts of America places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. To maintain such an environment, the BSA developed numerous procedural and leadership selection policies and provides parents and leaders with resources for the Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing programs. New leaders are required to take Youth Protection training before submitting an application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time the application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins. -
Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer's Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered. -
