The Northeast Illinois Council wants to ensure that all of our Scouts have the opportunity to participate fully in our programs.  Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to provide scholarships to assist our youth who need a little extra help on their path.

Cub Scout and Boy Scout Scholarship Application Information

The purpose of the 2018 scholarship program is to assist a Northeast Illinois Council Scout’s family in meeting the financial requirements for Northeast Illinois Council-sponsored outdoor summer experiences (see #2 & 3 below).

NEW IN 2018

  1. The amount awarded to each scout will be based on individual need, program fees, and scholarship funds available. You will no longer be asked for a “requested amount”.
  2. Scholarship applications will be accepted from Northeast Illinois Council Scouts, only. Out-of-council Scouts needing financial assistance to attend summer camp are encouraged to contact their council or charter organization.  Some units or Districts also have their own scholarship program to assist scouts.
  3. Cub Scout Camps: Scholarship applications will be accepted for Cub Scout Day Camp and Akela (Webelos Resident) Camp at Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan.  They are not available for the family camps in April or July.
  4. Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Boy Scout/Venturing Summer Camps: Scholarship applications will not be accepted for Apostle Island, Lake Superior, and Pictured Rocks high adventure treks.

IMPORTANT:  Families with multiple Scouts needing financial assistance for a council summer camp must complete a scholarship application for each Scout.

NOTE:  To help defray the cost of camp, we encourage Scouts and units to sell popcorn, or to use other council-approved fundraising activities.

BOY SCOUT AND CUB SCOUT DEADLINE: The scholarship application must be completed online by April 8 (extended to May 15) for Cub Scout Camps and Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation Camps (see #3 & #4 above), or we cannot guarantee approval of any scholarship requests.  Contact [email protected] if the Scout joined this Troop or Crew after April 2, or if you missed this deadline.

BOY SCOUT AND CUB SCOUT NOTIFICATION:  We will notify the Parent and your Unit’s Adult Leader of the awarded scholarship amount by April 20.  The Scout must be registered online with at least the non-refundable deposit no later than May 1.  Delay of registration could result in cancellation of a scholarship by our council.

NYLT-EARLIER DEADLINE:  Because of the National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) course’s April 1 Early Bird registration (and “deposit only” option) deadline, NYLT scholarship applications must be received at our council office by March 21.  Email the NYLT coordinator about its submission, if you need an extension, or for NYLT registration/payment instructions (contact info is on the NYLT Form).  The awarded scholarship amount will be forwarded to the NYLT coordinator, and applied online toward the youth’s camp fees.

NYLT-NOTIFICATION DATE:  We will notify the Parent and your Unit’s Adult Leader of the awarded NYLT scholarship amount by March 26.  The Scout must be registered (with NYLT coordinator), with at least the non-refundable deposit being paid by then.  Delay of registration with paid deposit risks cancellation of a scholarship by our council.

  • You have questions about the new “NEIC only” policy
  • You have a scout with special circumstances that require more financial assistance to participate in our council programs
